Summary0000862: Tracking of click-throughs (clilcking of embedded links)
DescriptionI would like to be able to measure who and how many of my users have clicked on the various links in the email messages (other mailing systems offer this functionality). Maybe a placeholder like
[LINKTRACK:http//www.myurl.com]
could be implemented. It would work a bit like [USERTRACK] - before sending, PHPlist would substitute a link to a page which records:
a) the message ID
b) the URL being tracked
c) the user ID of who clicked the link and
d) the time when they clicked it
before redirecting to the final URL.

I'd like to second that. In addition I'm going to attach some screen shots from bCentral's admin section to show some of their statistical reporting.

I have erased the email subjects and my company name where applicable.

is anyone working on this? I would be interested in working with someone on this as a module, although I would want to make it a TRUE module and not require any edits to the existing codebase, or at least keep them to a minimum so that users of various versions can utilize the feature...

As far as i see it, it would be consist of 2 modules: a feeder and reader if you.
The feeder module would parse outgoing emails for a certain tag, such as [link=http://www.example.com]Link Text [/link] and replace them with something like <a href="http://www.example.com/redirect.php?msg_id=512&user_id=11245468&link=546541;

as mentioned above... people want:
a) the message ID
b) the URL being tracked
c) the user ID of who clicked the link and
d) the time when they clicked it before redirecting to the final URL.
