|Summary||0017602: Subscribe page set up confusion - check box for lists or not|
|Description||Change the "If there is only one visible list, should it be hidden in the page and automatically subscribe users who sign up"|
to: Show a check box for list choice when there is only one list and default to NO
way less complex.
Also, move the Subscription settings area up and list-organisation settings down, because those two are related strongly
||why default to NO? I think it doesn't make sense to have a CB for a single list.|
I phrased this badly
The TEXT for that setting should be like
"Show a check box for list choice when there is only one list" (it's like a double negative atm)
and yes, the setting should "and default to NO"
I think your option is more confusing.
My text explains that the subscriber will be added to the list.
Yours would indicate that subscribers cannot sign up (the checkbox is gone).
I think as it is is fine, and yes, it may be confusing, but yes, it defaults to a sensible setting so nobody will care. Besides with 0017605 sorted out, this is less confusing already. The rest can be explained in the docs.
I don't think my option/wording is perfect, however I don think this topic is an issue, I have come up against it many times and find it confusing every time.
"If there is only one visible list, should it be hidden in the page and automatically subscribe users who sign up?"
To me this is very unclear, "visible list" and "hidden in page" especially. It sounds to me like you are describing how the code makes the feature work.
I am also not sure what the point of offering the checkbox for single list option is, I mean, what happens if someone subscribes but does not check the box? Do they just get added to the system but not to the list?
"Yours would indicate that subscribers cannot sign up (the checkbox is gone)." I don't think anyone would assume this, I mean, why would we create a feature to allow broken subscribe pages.
So, to summarize
1) Do we need this feature at all? The default "no" sounds like the only sensible option anyway
2) If we do need it, I still think we need to describe it better.
