Summary0015526: SYLK file not valid...
DescriptionAn exported user list containing the ID column cannot be opened in Excel.
Excel gives error: "SYLK: File format is not valid"

ref. http://mantis.phplist.com/view.php?id=4677&nbn=1 [^]

I do not understand the decision "won't fix" for the above issue. One goes through the effort of adding a note to the documentation while it is just as easy to correct the code.

The best way, in my opinion, to solve this is to change the string "ID" to "Id" in file \admin\structure.php. At list on line 29, or better still for all occurances in the file. (Change all case sensitive).

Not correcting such a problem is not an option!

I don't have excel, so it's a bit hard to test, but are you saying that your suggested fix of changing ID to id solves it?

I use open office, which has no problem opening the phpList exports.

If you can confirm that the lowercase fixes it, then I'd be happy to eg force all column headings lowerkey in the export, or maybe just the ID one. I wouldn't want to do this in the structure.php file, as that is used all over and might break something else

I hereby confirm that the lowercase fixes the problem.

p.s. I also use OpenOffice.org but my custommer does not.
